Red Embellishments German Silver Thread Bracelet

Red is the colour of this bracelet and the reason to choose it over the black one: it is meant to be noticed. A red cotton thread wrapped around the wrist, with small German-silver ghungroo bells knotted in at intervals, so it catches light and makes a soft sound when you move your hand.

Size and fit

8 inches (20 cm) end to end, bead closure. On a small wrist it sits loose and moves; on a larger wrist it sits close. It weighs about 25 g, so you feel it but it does not drag. If you are between, choose it for the loose look — the bells are the point.

Red with what

White or ivory sleeves make the red read cleanly: a white kurta, a linen shirt, a cream kaftan. It also holds its own against black. We would not put it with another red unless the shades match, and we would not stack it with a watch on the same wrist; it wants the wrist to itself or a plain silver bangle beside it.

Occasions

Haldi and mehndi first — red thread is traditional there — then Diwali week, then any day you want one bright thing. Men wear it too; the length suits both.

Care

Red thread can bleed in its first wash, so take it off before water. Keep away from perfume and store flat in a dry pouch so the bells do not tangle.
